Summer is winding down and it is time to think fall foliage!
Plan to join us for our 2nd annual Pig Roast and Pumpkin Carving Contest October 10-12th!!

Time to plan a trip to visit us for fall which is one of the prettiest seasons for camping!   We are making plans again for our fall BBQ and pumpkin carving contest!  So put aside the weekend of October 10-12th and come camp with us or rent one of our many cabins and enjoy the local Apple Butter Festival along with our celebration.  We have enjoyed seeing a lot of repeat visitors this year coming into our 3rd camping season since we bought Happy Acres.  We have made so many new changes over the last year that the resort hardly looks like the same place, and we are receiving lots of compliments on the positive changes!!  As usual though Gene has lots more plans to make our resort even more beautiful so watch here as I post the newest ideas he has come up with!!

Our new managers are in place.  Jeff and Joy Smith and their son Nick moved in in July and brought with them a variety of "critters" from an assortment of fish to their cats Shadow and Sparrow and their dog Dakota.  We are proud to have them on our staff and look forward to a  long relationship of Happy times as they make Happy Acres their home!
Our Yurt, named the Owl's Nest is now finished and already becoming a popular rental!

We've had an interesting variety of pets come stay with us this year with our first pet goat, our first horses and even Peyton the cat!  Click on our pets page to see  pictures of the various animals such as Rufus Swartley the goat.  His owners say all they have to do is pull out the camper and he gets excited knowing he is going camping!  You can also see Buck and Skip who took their owners, the Massaro's, on a beautiful mountain trail ride.  They parked their horse trailer for the evening and took an early morning ride, stopped back to eat at the restaurant and went out for an afternoon ride. We are so glad people are bringing pets and as they do we are finding out how creative people can be on vacation with pets and that there is so much to do around here such as horse back riding!  We have had lots of dogs from the tiniest little Yorkies to an extra large Great Dane, and it seems like the animals have as much fun as the people do!  If you come visit us and bring your pet be sure to stop by the office and let us know so we can get a picture to put on our pets page!

Our playground is busy with young and old enjoying the basketball and shuffleboard along with the horseshoe pits. Our cabins are a big hit with our newest one the Elk Ridge now into the rental program.  The Yurt should be up and running by August.
We also added a dump station and moved a lot of dirt around to make some of our sites bigger so they are ready for you to put your camper or even a cabin on. Our managers home is almost complete and the landscaping should really finish it off.  Our parking area by the office is much bigger now making it easier to get in and out of the resort.  Click here for pictures of the managers new home and the progress we are making with the landscaping.

The Dam at Little Pine State Park is busy with fishermen as are the streams.  We also had many people canoing and kayaking, thankfully the water has been high and the weather is bright and sunny!  The wildlife has been active with the eagles, deer, bear and turkeys spotted around the campground.  So much to see, so much to do - so make some plans to come relax and enjoy one of the prettiest mountain areas of Pennsylvania!  We look forward to a peaceful summer and hope you come visit!

Kim and her restaurant staff found that the warmer weather has brought many campers into the restaurant to not only enjoy her wonderful meals but to feast on her delicious ice cream cones and sundaes.   Her food and service are getting rave reviews and we know you will be happy when you enjoy a meal with her!!
The Happy Acres General Store is now stocked up with food and supplies for campers, fishermen and other outdoor enthusiasts.  She offers ready to go sandwiches, salads, deli items, and other snack food.  The store also has live bait, and other needs for fishing, hunting and camping. Along with all of these items there are groceries, souvenirs, and collectibles.  See the restaurant page for more information on the Happy Acres General Store and  Restaurant.

The Owl's Nest

y

This is our newest rental called a Yurt.  A Yurt is a circular, peaked roofed dwelling with  wooden lattice walls, covered in canvas. These innovative walled tents, adaptations of
an ancient shelter used by nomads for centuries,
are creatively engineered and aesthetically pleasing in our mountain setting. The Owl's Nest is now in the rental program and already is becominng a popular rental.  The inside is beautiful with  1 bedroom with a queen size bed, a full bathroom complete with a jacuzzi tub and circular shower, a kitchen and living area with a pull out sofa.  The yurt will be available year round and will be heated!! The Happy Acres crew had fun learning how to erect this structure and you can click here

Weddings

We are proud to announce that Rachel and Mark were married on Saturday August 16th at our Happy Acres Lodge.  This creative couple walked over the covered bridge and were officially married while their guests watched from the deck of the Lodge.  After the ceremony the couple and their friends and family celebrated with a reception at the Happy Acres Restaurant!  It was a beautiful day for an outdoor wedding and we are so happy they chose to have a Happy Acres Wedding!!!
You can go to our wedding page to see pictures of this wedding and also of  Tina and Skip's reception that they held at our Lodge back in the spring of 2006.   It seems the Lodge turned out to be a perfect setting for their "big day" and they enjoyed it so much they are making it a yearly vacation spot !!
Click here to see some wedding pictures from both weddings.  We would be thrilled to work with you to plan a mountain wedding for you.  Our restaurant has the facilities to hold banquets and Kim can work out a perfect menu with you for your special occasion.  We have many settings to pick from for a beautiful outdoors wedding ceremony. If you wold like more information please call our office and set up an appointment to meet with us to discuss the possibilities.

Pig Roast and Pumpkin Carving Contest
Our Pig Roast and Pumpkin contest was a huge success.  With about 75 guests joining us outside the office we had an evening full of great food and lots of laughs!!  We had 16 "artists" show us their talent by carving and or decorating a pumpkin that we supplied for them.  We had a variety of art work from intricate Witches on Brooms and Trick or Treat carved out of a pumpkin to a very creative dog house pumpkin, and a glitter face pumpkin!!  All our contestants went away with prizes and the grand prize winner was 7 yr old Rayson Raffensberger, tied for 2nd runner up were Devon Donahue and Ruth Raffensberger, 3rd runner up was Dean Berkheimer.  You can see pictures of this event along with the winners by clicking here on our Pig Roast Page.  We are so glad everyone came out to have fun and will make this a yearly event.

NEW!!NEW!!NEW!!

New Generators are in place that will guarantee if you stay here you will ALWAYS have running water and a hot shower!!  We are so happy to have this new equipment set up and running to insure a safe and comfortable stay at our resort!!

Our Bathhouse has a new roof.  This is another big step in the improvements we are continually doing to our resort.  We now have a new green metal roof on our bathhouse.  We extended the roof to cover over our office door and also our soft drink machines so you won't have to stand in the weather
 anymore.
Along with the new roof we have added a pay phone located just outside our office door.  We realize that without cell phone coverage up here in this mountainous area there is a great need for a public phone on site so you can call home etc...  so we added one for your convenience.  Another improvement that will make your stay more comfortable.

BUY-BUILD-OR BRING

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING A VACATION HOME READ THIS.... .  Have you dreamed of owning a vacation home in the mountains and just could not afford it??  Land up here is becoming scarce and VERY EXPENSIVE but we are so happy that we can offer you a rental site in our resort.  You are welcome to bring or build your own vacation home on the site you pick out. Your site comes with year round access to your property with our managers living on site to watch over it.  Our bathhouse and laundry are open year round. Also you receive free local cable, road maintenance, trash, water and sewer, and access to our pool in the summer.

If you are thinking of joining our permanent site family and placing a cabin on one of our sites, we are offering a line of cabins in a variety of shapes and sizes made to order from the same company that manufactured our Elk Ridge Cabin and our  Bear Hugs Cabin.
It is a very exciting opportunity for people to buy a quality cabin at an affordable price.  These rustic cabins come in all shapes and sizes and can be custom ordered to fit your families needs.  Both the Elk Ridge Cabin and the Bear Hugs Cabin were designed by Gene and you are welcome to come to our resort and view these cabins to see the quality of the structure and talk to Gene about designing your own home!   Please call for more information.

 Attention Hunters and Fishermen

With the weather warming up and opening day of trout season behind us we are ready for those of you that want to come and try you hand at catching trout in one of the best areas in Pennsylvania for stocked and wild trout.  The Pine Creek and its many tributaries are stocked and the water is plentiful with the wet spring we have had.
Take a look at our trophy page for a few new pictures of campers, Mike and Patrick, that caught some trout on opening weekend.  They all seemed to have a great time and there is plenty of spring and summer ahead to come and enjoy the fishing. And remember if you do get a "big one" stop by the office and make sure we get a picture to put on our trophy page!!

We had a wonderful turn out for bear season last year and even though the weather didn't cooperate, one of our guests, Dave, shot his bear on opening day.
We had our first resort guest bag a buck this season during archery season, and now we have had another guest get a buck in the regular buck season. You can see pictures of Doug and Henry with their bucks along with Dave and his bear on our trophy page.   Last year three of our resort guests each killed a bear and 1 of our deer hunters took home a buck.  Make sure you book your cabin ahead for next season.  It will be here before you know it!! To take a look at the pictures on our Trophy Page just click here on the word Trophy to see pictures of the men and their game they took home!!

OUR POOL AND  OUR BRIDGE ARE  FINISHED!!!!   I now have some updated pictures of our  pool, so click on this link called POOL PAGE for pictures. Our pavilion by the pool will be the perfect place to have a picnic or pool party while you are staying with us.  While we are doing the landscaping by the pool we will be adding a BBQ Grill next to the pavilion for your use.  We also have added a sink and counter top inside the pavilion.   We have finished rebuilding a brand new wooden bridge over to the pool.  It was quite a process to take out the old steel bridge and  replace it with a brand new wooden footbridge.  See pictures of the bridge on the pool page.

OTHER NEW ADDITIONS******Our horseshoe pits are ready to use and our basketball court along with our shuffleboard court up and ready for those of you who want a little competition on your vacation!!
We have also added some new items in our camp store for sale.  You can now purchase Happy Acres Resort t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, polo shirts, magnets, note pads, and the cutest little smiley face antennae toppers .  Come in our office and see our new display case full of goodies!!

We are working on more updates and, as those of you who are familiar with Happy Acres know,  it is a work in progress!!  Gene has many new ideas as we revamp the campground into a high quality resort for all to enjoy.  I encourage you to watch our website for these updates.  We will be putting new pictures up as the projects are finished.
